What is an Epidural Injection?

An Epidural injection is an injection of local anaesthetic and/or steroid into the epidural space. The Epidural space lies within the bony ring of the spinal column, just outside the fluid‐filled sac that surrounds the spinal cord and nerve roots.

Preparation

Please ensure the following steps are followed. They will serve to prepare you for your examination and/or procedure.

• Appointment required for this procedure
• If you take Warfarin or other blood thinning agents, you will need to notify our staff as this may require cessation or blood tests prior to the procedure
• You will be asked to sign a consent form
• You are not able to drive home, therefore you must organise a driver
